Deer Fencing Systems
Old Family Tradition

Sargent's Nursery, INC

Deer are pesky creatures in the garden! In urban areas they do not hesitate to walk right to the front door to munch on your freshly planted annuals and it's common practice for deer to take a stroll through the neighborhood tickling their taste buds all day long. It's time to rescue your garden! If your deer problem is very serious, consider using plants deer avoid eating when designing a new garden. If your garden is established and you'd like to keep what you have intact, a fence is in order. This doesn't mean that you must barricade your property with an 8' fence. You could opt to use an invisible Liquid Fence, instead. Read more about each option below.

Plants Deer Avoid Deer commonly avoid the following plants due to toxicity, fragrance or texture. Please note that deer may consider this list if they are in desperation.

Deer Fencing Systems -An Actual Fence is Always an Option
Sargent's landscape department designs and installs standard or decorative deer fencing systems. The main component is a black vinyl fencing. It's virtually invisible from a short distance away.

The heavy gauge fencing material can be used with standard metal posts or a decorative, custom post option. If your space has a natural perimeter of large trunked trees, your post solution is simple.

It's best if a deer fence is 8' high, but Red Wing city standards dictate a 6' limit, which is usually sufficient. A permit must be attained if you plan to build within city limits.

Give us a call to discuss what may work on your property. Our designers are happy to help!

"We gladly pulled weeds in grandma's garden. Especially when she declared that she'd give us a penny for every weed pulled!

The same system was followed when we picked up horsechesnuts from the lawn. To me, they were treasures to be found! At the young age of 6 I gained much gardening experience while working with my beloved grandmother, Carol Sargent."
