Hosta 'Remember Me'
Fight For a Cause
Breast cancer is the leading cause of death in American women. Sandy De Boer, a wonderful employee who worked in the hosta house at Walters (Sargent's wholesale supplier). She succumbed to the disease in 2001. Her favorite hosta was 'June', so it only seemed fit that the next sport of 'June' be named in honor of Sandy. That's how 'Remember Me' came to be.
Plant Description: Leaves of this lovely hosta emerge in spring bright yellow with a narrow, dusty green edge. By early summer, leaves have dark blue-green margins with some streaking into the large, snow white centers; appears white from a distance. Light lavender flowers appear on 20" scapes in midsummer

Echinacea purpurea 'Hope'
Fight For a Cause
Sargent's wholesale supplier, Walter's Garden's is aware of how prevalent breast cancer is among women today. Another Walters Gardens, Inc. employee, Laurel Hall, was diagnosed with the disease in May of 2003. Thankfully, because of the valuable research efforts of organizations like Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Laurel has a clean bill of health today. During her process of healing, she developed the idea for adding a new plant to the program, one that would be named in honor of breast cancer survivors.
Plant Description: Echinacea 'Hope' 4 produces fragrant, soft pink flowers of great size and substance atop strong stems that are great for cutting. Introduced by Terra Nova Nurseries. 2009 Perennial of the Year!
Hakonechloa macra 'Aureola'
Grass-Ornamental
An intriguing and graceful grass is for the shade. Slender stems hold bright yellow foliage with thin green stripes. Perhaps its most fascinating attribute is the cascading habit in which most of the leaves arch in the same direction, appearing much like a golden waterfall.
Plant this grass in partial shade where it will cascade down slopes, drape over rocks, crawl over the edges of walls, at the front of the garden, or even in containers. 18 inches tall and wide
Though this grass does spread by stolens, it is a slow grower and will not rapidly overtake its neighbors. Its average size is about 18 inches. In colder climates, it will die all the way back to the ground. |
